Snake.io drops you into a shared arena as a growing snake, racing other players to eat the most and survive the longest. Grow big enough and you stop being prey — instead, you become the thing everyone else on the map is trying to avoid.

How to Play

The basics are simple: slither around the arena picking up scattered food to grow longer. The bigger you get, the more dangerous — and more of a target — you become.

Speed and Risk

Holding down the left mouse button lets your snake move faster, burning through some of the length you've built up in exchange for a quick burst of speed. That trade-off is central to the game: sprinting fast enough to cut off another player takes energy you can't get back instantly, so timing a burst of speed matters as much as having it available. Take down another snake and everything they were carrying gets scattered as food, giving you a big payout if you're quick enough to grab it.

Skins

A skins shop lets you customize your snake's appearance once you've unlocked enough of them. New skins come from hitting milestones like high scores or logging consecutive days played.

Tips and Tricks

Stay aggressive and take more risks early, while you're still small and have little to lose.
Keep an eye out for the crown icon — it marks the largest snake currently on the map.
Once you're big enough, try circling smaller snakes to box them in rather than chasing them directly.
A large snake is intimidating on its own — sometimes the safest strategy is just to be too big to bother with.

Background

Snake.io was developed by Kooapps and originally released on iOS and Android in April 2016. A WebGL browser version followed later, launching in September 2022.
