Baldi's Basics
Baldi's Basics
Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning looks like an old, forgettable 1990s edutainment game — cheerful graphics, simple math problems, a friendly-looking teacher. It isn't. Beneath that surface is a survival horror game where solving basic arithmetic wrong makes Baldi angrier, faster, and a lot more dangerous.
How to Play
The goal is simple to state: collect seven notebooks scattered around the school, then escape. Each notebook contains a handful of basic math problems, and answering correctly is straightforward on its own — the challenge comes from everything happening around you while you try.
Baldi patrols the school, and every wrong answer makes him faster and more aggressive toward you. Other characters roam the halls too, each with their own quirks: some will interrupt you with demands or activities, others will take items from you outright. Managing your limited stamina while navigating the school's layout and avoiding unwanted encounters is just as important as getting the math right.
Items scattered throughout the school can help even the odds — certain tools can disrupt other characters' behavior or buy you some breathing room, and learning when to use them is a big part of surviving a run. Memorizing the school's layout over repeated attempts also makes a real difference, since panicked wandering tends to end runs quickly.
Modes
The original game includes two ways to play: Story mode, where the objective is collecting all seven notebooks and escaping (with Baldi speeding up as you collect more), and Endless mode, which drops the escape condition in favor of simply surviving as long as possible.

Background
Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning was created by Micah McGonigal (also known online as mystman12) for the 2018 Meta Game Jam, built in around two weeks and originally released in March 2018. It was directly inspired by the 1996 educational game Sonic's Schoolhouse, drawing on that game's unsettling visual style rather than its actual content. The game spread quickly after several major YouTubers covered it in 2018, eventually amassing hundreds of millions of views across fan videos, animations, and adaptations.
Platform
Available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
